What are the three types of acids?

Acids can generally be classified into three main types. The first is a binary acid, the second is a hydroxy acid, and the last is a carboxylic acid. Binary acids are all written in the “H-A” form, which means hydrogen bonding to a non-metal atom. The general acidity trend for a binary acid increases from the top in the group and increases from left to right over the period. This is why HF is weaker than HCl and HBr is stronger than HCl (It should be noted that Cl and Br are in the same group).
