What are the types of coelenterates?
The following types of coelenterates are distinguished: hydroid, scyphoid and coral polyps.
Hydroids have a relatively simple structure. They feed on plankton, small animals. In the spring-summer period, it reproduces asexually, buds develop on the body, which, when ripening, leave the mother. In the fall, sexual reproduction takes place, with the formation of an egg, which in the spring will give life to new organisms.
Scyphoid – a class of free-swimming jellyfish, the stage of the polyp is either absent or poorly developed. Sexual reproduction, a scyfostoma is formed, from which jellyfish bud.
Coral – organisms with an internal keratinized skeleton. They lead a sedentary lifestyle, reproduce by budding, while not separating from the mother’s body, or sexually.
