During the Reformation, Protestantism split into several currents at once. John Calvin became the founder of Calvinism, which gained particular popularity in Germany. Martin Luther became the founder of the most popular movement – Lutheranism. Zwinglianism, founded by Ulrich Zwingli, was less widespread. Local religious associations and various local sects also arose. Anglicanism gained its popularity. The Anabaptists were also known to Medieval Europe.
