What aspiration united the members of the Northern and Southern societies?

Members of the Northern and Southern Society held different ideas. They had their own programs to rebuild the empire. They had different attitudes towards the revolutionary coup. But they were united by the desire to destroy the autocracy. Also, their opinions converged in relation to the peasant and labor issues. They strove for the abolition of serfdom, for the abolition of estates, conscription, military settlements. Participants in both currents agreed that the empire needed democratic principles.
