What battle and why was it called the Battle of the Ice in our history?

The Battle on the Ice or the Battle of Lake Peipsi took place on April 5, 1242 with the participation of Izhora, Novgorodians and Vladimirtsy under the leadership of Alexander Nevsky, on the one hand, and the army of the Livonian Order, on the other. The name of the battle was so because the battle took place on a frozen lake, i.e. on ice. Some sources claim that due to the weight of the armor, the Germans fell through the ice when the Russians chased the runners across the ice for 7 miles.
