What biological characteristics of legumes are important to consider when growing them?

The legume group includes plants with different attitudes to environmental factors – food, heat and moisture. However, they have one important feature – the ability to fix gaseous nitrogen in the atmosphere in addition to fixing soil nitrogen, which is usual for other plants. This feature is explained by the presence of nodule bacteria on the roots of all legumes. That is why soil moisture and its optimum temperature are very important for their normal cultivation. Ideal soil should be slightly acidic or neutral.
