What branches are the Slavic peoples divided into?

Modern scholars distinguish three branches of the Slavic peoples:
Eastern – Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians.
Western – Poles, Czechs, Slovaks
South – Bulgarians, Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, Macedonians, Bosnians, Montenegrins
There is also a theory about the belonging of the Germans to the peoples of the Slavic group, but it has not been proven by scientists.
