What caused the root modifications?

The root is the underground part of the plant, thanks to which it is fixed in the soil and absorbs trace elements and water necessary for its existence. The common characteristics of all roots are apical growth and radial structure. Modification of the roots is due to the fact that they perform various additional functions. Examples of root modification are root crops (accumulation of nutrients), attachment roots (attachment to a support), sucker roots (penetration into the organs of other plants).
