What cells are formed during mitosis?

Mitosis is a process in which the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell splits into two parts, and then the parent cell splits into two daughter cells. The word “mitosis” means “filaments,” and it refers to the filamentary appearance of chromosomes as a cell prepares to divide. Early microscopists were the first to observe these structures and also noted the emergence of a specialized network of microtubules during mitosis. As mitosis progresses, microtubules attach to chromosomes that have already duplicated their DNA and aligned to the center of the cell.
