What cells form the integumentary tissue of the leaf?

Depending on the part of the plant, there are several types of integumentary tissue. Such a leaf is called a skin or epidermis, it consists of transparent, thin, tightly adjacent cells of irregular shape. They play the role of a barrier that protects the leaf from the external environment and various harmful organisms, and perform the function of regulating water evaporation and gas exchange. All tissue is divided into basic and specialized cells – stomata. The main cells can have additional outgrowths – hairs that create leaf pubescence.
