What characterizes the period of the Middle Ages?

The Middle Ages are the broadest stratum of time. This period dates back to the 5th-16th centuries. This time was characterized by the flourishing of traditional foundations. Freedom was replaced by religious oppression, which sometimes took on an unprecedented scale. Social relations were based on inequality of property. People in many countries were attached to their class and could not cultivate. But by the end of the 15th century, the inhabitants of many states realized that such a society is not progressive. Gradually, civil rights and freedoms began to appear.
