What contribution did Galileo make to the study of the structure of the universe?

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was a legendary Italian Renaissance thinker. He was fond of mathematics, philosophy, physics, astronomy and other sciences. During his life, he discovered many new and refuted several old physical laws, made several inventions.

But his most important contribution to science was the study of the universe. By his research, he fell out of favor with the church, because he destroyed its foundations. Galileo, based on his observations and studies, dared to assert that the Earth is not the center of the Universe and that not all celestial bodies revolve around it. He was an ardent supporter of the teachings of Nicolaus Copernicus, who presented a model of the world, according to which the earth revolved around the sun.

The church in every possible way obstructed his studies and even imprisoned him under house arrest. But this did not stop Galileo from research and work on scientific research.
