What controls the movement of the magnetic compass needle?

The magnetic compass is a freely rotating magnetic needle on the base. The principle of operation is based on the earth’s magnetic field. Regardless of the position of the compass housing, the arrow is always oriented along the lines of the magnetic field, with one side pointing to the north magnetic pole, the other to the south. It must be understood that the geographic and magnetic poles do not coincide, so the compass only points to approximately north or south.
