What decisions could the national assembly in Athens make? How was the vote taken?

The People’s Assembly in Athens, as the supreme body of power, had broad powers. The meeting was held up to 40 times a year, where issues of war and peace, food were decided, laws were adopted, high officials were elected, and issues related to the personal affairs of citizens were also considered. Any citizen of Athens over the age of 21 could participate in the assembly, and 6,000 people were required to vote. It was carried out by dropping black and white stones into urns, and sometimes by simply raising hands.
