In the period from 1586 to 1588, the Spanish king assembled a large fleet in order to defeat the forces of the British and, thus, capture England. The Spaniards were able to assemble a huge fleet, which consisted of about 140 ships. So on August 8, 1588, near Gravelina, a major battle took place between the English and Spanish fleets. In this battle, the Spaniards were defeated. Thus, the Invincible Armada was defeated. So soon England was able to seize supremacy of the sea into their own hands.
