What determines the number of altitude zones in the mountains?

The number of altitude zones that can fit on one mountain depends on the height of the summit and its geographical position. If the mountain is close to the equator, and its height exceeds six kilometers, then all existing natural belts will alternate on its slopes. This phenomenon can be seen in the Andean Ridge. If the mountain is located in the subpolar zone, such as, for example, the highest point of the Urals, Mount Narodnaya, then only two poles can fit on its slopes: the tundra at the foot and the icy desert at the top.
