What did Great Britain get after the capture of the Suez Canal?

This channel was of significant strategic value due to the fact that it simplified communication between distant parts of the British Empire. During the First World War, the canal was one of the goals of the Ottoman Empire, but still the British were able to keep it under their control. Then, during the Second World War, this channel was the target of the German-Italian troops, but they also failed.
