What did knights possess in the Middle Ages?

In the era of feudalism in Europe, land was considered the main value. The knights in the service of the king received their own allotment and, in peacetime, settled their possessions. Castles and places for recreation were usually erected on the territory. But in Europe there were not enough places to distribute land to the knights. Therefore, the landless knights became more and more. This was one of the main incentives for their participation in the crusades. The war was needed to expand the territories that can be given over to the knights.
