What did slaves do in ancient Rome?

Ancient Rome had a huge influx of slaves thanks to the constant military conquests. Slaves were hired for construction, servants and entertainment. Slaves could work on the ground, could work in mines, and also serve as rowers in the navy. We can say that the slaves performed the hardest work. Accordingly, their life was short-lived. The situation was best with slaves who served as domestic servants, but they were mostly women or girls.
