What did the Byzantines call their state?

Byzantium was in fact the Eastern Roman Empire, just at one stage of the early Middle Ages it began to develop separately. The main population of the country, who also ruled the state, and also prevailed in the Balkan Peninsula, are Greeks. They also considered themselves the heirs of the Romans and the Roman Empire. Therefore, the country was officially called the “Roman Empire” (the official title of the rulers on their seals). The name “Romania” was also common, and they called themselves “Romans”.
