What did the Egyptians use to make writing material?

In ancient Egypt, “Paper” was papyrus. It was made from a reed plant that grew in the lower reaches of the Nile. The bottom of this cane was stripped of the outer layer, the remainder was cut into strips and soaked in water. After the strips were swollen, they were rolled out with a gurney and soaked again. And so several times. Then they were placed under a press, dried and smoothed. Sharpened reed sticks were used as pens, and ocher and soot were used as ink.
