What did the sailors tell about the bronze statue of Athena that adorned the top of the Acropolis?

The great Greek sculptor Phidias made a beautiful statue of the great goddess Athena, patroness of the city, who adorned the top of the Acropolis. The head of the bronze statue was decorated with a gilded helmet, in her hand was a bronze goddess – a warrior holding a spear with a gold tip, which sparkled like a star in the blue sky and served as a beacon for ships sailing to Athens. Thus, the goddess was the first to welcome guests arriving in the great city.
