What do midges eat?

Midges are very small insects, sometimes not exceeding 6mm. They belong to the family of small mosquitoes. Female midges are excellent swimmers, this is where they lay their eggs. It is from the water that young newly hatched midges receive their first food – they extract organic remains with the help of hairs and dense bristles. Grown-up individuals prefer to eat only on hot, bright days. They love to feast on spoiled foods, food from open cans, pet food, and the remains of animal products that contain blood. There are species of midges (flower), they feed on the underground parts of the plant.
