What do soil animals eat?

Living organisms that live in the ground have a specific diet. Many of them eat the remains of vegetation, such as last year’s leaves, accelerating their decomposition and enriching the soil. They can also eat roots, seeds and bulbs, that is, the underground part of plants. Underground mammals sometimes eat invertebrates as well. Smaller living organisms, like bacteria, decompose the flesh of dead animals.
