This meant that they began to serve the state, and their social position depended on the position they held, and wealth and nobility faded into the background. This served as the abolition of parochialism and the noble estates turned into hereditary estates. Further, the position of the nobles was strengthened, thanks to the introduction of serfdom in 1649 and the formation of a “local order” years later.
