What do you see as the reasons why, unlike other European capitals occupied by French troops, Moscow was burnt and plundered?

The principle of Napoleon’s war was the defeat of the enemy in several general battles, imposed by the emperor himself or gladly accepted, so the capitals remained intact and the troops entered there as the final victors. The 1812 company was different from the rest. The Russian army retreated, leaving scorched earth behind it, and did not give a general battle.
