What does self-education give a person?

Self-education gives a person knowledge, makes him free and independent of many circumstances.
For example, I want a pie.
You can go to the store, go to the confectionery department and buy, or you can do otherwise.
Open a cookbook, choose the recipe you like and make the cake yourself.
Or, let’s say the whole family is going on an excursion.
You can take a guide by paying money for accompanying and storytelling.
Or you can read the necessary information on the Internet and act as a guide yourself.
