What effect does the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system have on the human body?

The parasympathetic and sympathetic divisions form the autonomic (autonomic) nervous, it regulates the work of internal organs (vascular lumen, intestinal peristalsis, secretion of digestive juices, increased / slowed heart rate) regardless of the will of the person. The action of these two divisions is interrelated, but opposite in effect: the sympathetic system acts at the moment of stress, the parasympathetic – at the moments of rest and safety of the body.
