What environmental factors influence root growth and development?

The growth and development of a plant’s root system can be influenced by a number of factors. Depending on the environment where the given plant got, the root, like all its other organs, will try to ensure that the plant successfully lives, develops and reproduces. If the soil is poor in moisture, the root will germinate as deeply as possible; if the soil cover is poor, it will grow wider. If the soil, on the contrary, is fertile, then the root will be well developed and strong. In addition to the composition of the soil (mineral and water), the climate and the amount of sunlight affect the development and growth of the root.
