What estates developed in Medieval Europe? Their rights and responsibilities.

In the Middle Ages, three estates developed in Europe:

1. The clergy. These are priests, monks, bishops, the Pope, abbots and bishops. Their duty was to connect people with God, to explain to people about the meaning of Christianity, to ensure that the people were believers.

2. Know. The top of the nobility was represented by kings and queens, and further on the top of this staircase were the richer nobles. Their tasks included protecting the borders of the state, caring for the people, military campaigns, defensive actions, politics, economics.

3. Peasants. Commoners had to pay taxes and provide food for the clergy and nobility.
