What events triggered the reformation in Germany?

The Reformation in Germany began with Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. In his theses, Luther criticized the papal church, opposed indulgences (documents that the Catholic Church sold to ordinary people for absolution. Luther’s theses were translated from Latin into German and quickly spread throughout Germany. In 1520, Luther published a special address in which criticized the basic tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.In 1521, Luther was summoned to the Reichstag for trial before the Emperor Charles V and was accused.Then Luther went into hiding in Saxony.
