It is possible to prove that the rudiment of one organ determines the development of others with the help of an experiment, in which a section of the dorsal side of the body is taken from the embryo at the stage of early gastrula, from which the chord and mesoderm are to develop in the future, and transplanted to the ventral side of the other gastrula. As a result of this transplantation, an additional neural tube was formed on the ventral side of the second gastrula from the cells that were supposed to give rise to the skin. This phenomenon is called embryonic induction.
