What features are typical for plants in the first layer of the forest?

Plants of the first layer of the forest live in a constant lack of light, being in the shade of taller trees. In deciduous forests, they begin to grow earlier than tree crowns, and thus store the right amount of carbon. In evergreen forests, they often become parasitic and grow on branches and trunks of trees. They cope well with a large amount of moisture, since the soil in the forest does not have time to dry out due to the lack of sunlight. These are mostly low shrubs, or herbaceous plants.
