What features do pituitary midgets and giants have? At what age did the dysfunction of their pituitary gland occur?

Pituitary midgets have the following features:

1.small height (less than 130 cm for men and less than 120 cm for women);

2. children’s facial features;

3. high voice;

4. mental abilities are not impaired;

5. tendency to emaciation or obesity in the chest and abdomen;

6. the absence of secondary sexual characteristics.

The main difference between pituitary midgets and dwarfs is a proportional physique, since their small stature is due to a congenital deficiency of the pituitary hormone somatotropin.

Giants have the following traits:

1.high growth (up to 250 cm);

2. disproportionately large arms and legs, less often the head;

3. the absence of secondary sexual characteristics.

Disruption of the pituitary gland of a midget is congenital, therefore, growth retardation becomes noticeable in the first years of life. Gigantism can be caused by both a congenital malformation of the pituitary gland and acquired disorders. In the first case, imbalances in the development of the skeleton appear at the age of 8-10 years, as well as during puberty. In the second case, gigantism can develop at any age: most often it is provoked by head injuries and tumors (pituitary adenoma).
