What features of the structure of metal atoms determine their reducing properties?

Metals are characterized by reducing properties due to their structure, that is, they have few electrons at the external energy level (1-3), which are significantly removed from the nucleus and are weakly bound to it; they can freely donate electrons to oxidants. For each metal, the reducing properties are expressed differently, in some it is stronger (alkaline and alkaline earth), in others it is weaker (amphoteric).
