What form of government prevails in the countries of Southern Europe? Why?

In European countries, the republican system prevails. It happened in the XX century. Monarchy everywhere ended its existence and was replaced by right-wing dictatorships. For example. in Portugal it happened during the 1910 revolution. In 1931 in Spain. In 1941 de facto in Yugoslavia.
The Kingdom of Italy existed until 1946.
The only exceptions are Spain, where the monarchy was restored after Franco’s death, and the tiny Vatican, where the theocratic monarchy is. This is in contrast to San Marino, where the most ancient republic is.
