What goals did Alexander the Great pursue?

When Alexander the Great took the royal throne, after the death of his father, he, like any other young, ambitious ruler, yearned for conquest. First of all, he strengthened the borders of Macedonia, defeating the barbarian tribes in the north. Further, the Macedonian, ahead of his ambitions with an army of 40 thousand, invades the Persian state. This was the first time the Greeks had dared to attack a mighty power. Despite this, Alexander manages to defeat the Persian troops and bring the whole empire to its knees. He also made a trip to India. He planned to capture the Arabian Peninsula, but died before the start of the campaign in 323 BC.
