What goals were pursued by European sailors?

The period from the 15th to the 18th century is characterized as the most turbulent period of European seafarers. During which many new lands were discovered, including North and South America. At any time, seafarers pursued the main goal – Profit from trade. Faraway countries with their exotic goods were in great demand in Europe. Thus, goods bought for a pittance or exchanged for other goods from the local population of newly discovered countries brought huge profits. But, it is true, long voyages were often dangerous, the sailors could be overtaken by a shipwreck as a result of a sea storm, or their ship could be robbed by pirates.
