What group of bacteria are considered “orderlies of the planet”?

The orderlies of our planet are called saprophytic bacteria. They feed on the remains of dead living organisms – plants and animals, since their vital activity requires organic substances that they contain. If they were not there, our planet would have turned into a big trash can. Bacteria destroy the proteins that make up all organisms and cause the process of decay. Saprophytes are found in any environment: in water, soil, they recycle residues and convert them into mineral substances for plants.
