What happens in plants when they breathe?

When plants breathe, processes occur as in humans. They first absorb molecular oxygen from the air. They are saturated with it and emit carbon dioxide with the release of energy. The reverse process that occurs in plants is called photosynthesis. This is where the “consumption” of carbon dioxide and the release of molecular oxygen take place.
