What happens to water when it is heated and cooled?

When heated, water tends to expand; when cooled, it shrinks. When heated, the temperature rises, the water increases in volume. Molecules repel each other —> increase in water volume. When cooled, the temperature decreases, it contracts. Here the speed of molecules and their convergence are lower.
