With the coming to power of Octavian Augustus, Rome with its provinces became a huge power, and Octavian himself became its proclaimed emperor.
With Octavian Augustus, civil wars ended, the state and its borders were strengthened, a new state government was established – the principate. The Senate was assigned the legislative supreme power and judicial, but the most important provinces, including Gaul, Illyria, Macedonia, Syria, Egypt, with the legions stationed there, were ruled directly by Augustus, his appointed legates and prefects.
He reformed the army as a professional one; paid attention to construction, water supply; raised the prestige and respect for Roman citizenship, for the priority of the family, childbirth.
To keep the plebs in subjection, Augustus did not skimp on funds for frequent public shows, in every possible way promoted the cults of the lari and genius.
