What, in your opinion, was the basis of the Anglo-French rivalry that began at the end of the 17th century (apart from specific wars and other conflicts)?

For example, France in the middle of the 17th century was able to obtain the status of a major European power thanks to the victory in the Thirty Years’ War. In fact, she became one of the most powerful in Europe. England then was a strong maritime state, as well as no less influential in Europe. Naturally, this was the direct reason for the rivalry between these two states. In subsequent years, this was expressed in the rivalry for the possession of colonies in Africa, America and other parts of the world.
