What is a monastic order? What are the reasons for the emergence of monastic orders in Europe?

A monastic order can be understood as a community of monks (monastics). The monastic order has its own charter, members of the order observe the provisions of this charter. Monastic orders differed both for reasons of origin (struggle against heresy, seclusion) and for sources of livelihood (alms or land and production).

The most famous monastic orders include the Franciscans, Dominicans, Benedictines. In total, there are currently about 140 monastic orders.
