What is a socio-economic formation?

The socio-economic formation, in Marxism, is a stage of social evolution, characterized by a certain stage in the development of the productive forces of society and the corresponding historical type of economic production relations that depend on it and are determined by it. There are no formal stages in the development of the productive forces that would not correspond to the types of production relations they define.
