What is called amperage? what does it characterize?

ELECTRIC CURRENT is a directed (ordered) movement of charged particles under the influence of an electric field. CURRENT STRENGTH is a physical quantity that characterizes the amount of electricity passing through the cross section of a conductor per unit of time, or the number of those same charged particles flowing through the cross section of a conductor. The current is calculated according to Ohm’s Law, according to which the current is directly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance:
I = U / R, where I – current strength, U – voltage (potential difference), R – resistance.
