What is common and what differences in structure and life activity can be distinguished by comparing mushrooms with plants and animals?
Fungi share characteristics with both plants and animals.
With plants: they grow at their top all their life, that is, they have unlimited growth; lead an attached lifestyle; have a cell wall; will multiply by spores.
With animals: feed on ready-made organic substances, that is, heterotrophs; no chlorophyll; reserve nutrient – glycogen; form urea.
Signs characteristic only of fungi: the cell wall contains chitin; the body of the fungus consists of filaments – hyphae, which make up the mycelium. Many mushrooms form a fruiting body, consisting of a cap and a hemp.
