What is common in the history of England and France, and what separates them?

England and France have a lot in common over the centuries. For example, they have in common that in the Middle Ages, both states were ruled by one king – England. Also in common is that during the late Middle Ages, both states had an absolute monarchy. A bourgeois revolution took place in both states. But there are already differences here. If a constitutional monarchy was established in England, then a republic was established in France. Another common feature is that both countries at one time had a large number of colonies.
