What is Democracy in Ancient Greece?

The concept of “democracy” was originally not used in ancient Greece for all manifestations of this concept. Translated as “rule of the people”. Earlier there was a similar concept “isonomia”. Over time, the word “democracy” came into use in Athens. This trend implied equality, freedom, legality. But, unlike liberalism, democracy presupposes actions for the benefit of society, or part of it. Under a democracy in ancient Greece, decisions were brought up for discussion by society in a national assembly. But only free people, citizens could participate. Women and slaves did not participate in management.
