What is Heavy Water?

Heavy water – This term is commonly used to refer to heavy water, also known as deuterium oxide. Heavy hydrogen water has the same chemical formula as ordinary water, but instead of two atoms of the ordinary light isotope of hydrogen it contains two atoms of the heavy isotope of hydrogen – deuterium. The formula of heavy hydrogen water is D2O. Externally, heavy water looks like ordinary water – a colorless liquid, tasteless and odorless, not radioactive.
